Pali language is widely studied because it is the language of the Pāli Canon of Buddha’s teachings or Tipiṭaka and it is the sacred language of Theravāda Buddhism. Knowledge of Pali language helps someone to understand original Dhamma, these Dhamma were later translated to Sinhala and English. At Sakyamuni Sambuddha Vihara, Pali language classes are conducted by resident monks for the lay people to learn the language to understand original Dhamma and if preferred to sit for an on-line examination at the University of Sri Lanka, Pali language section.
